Witness 'A'

Assange in Sweden: Witness 'A'
Transcript of the first witness statement in the preliminary police investigation.

STOCKHOLM/LONDON (Rixstep) — Nine witnesses were interrogated in conjunction with the preliminary police investigation into the allegations made against Julian Assange. Some of these interrogations were conducted by telephone and therefore 'conceptual' in nature; others took place on location and were recorded and thereafter transcribed.

The interrogation of 'Witness A' was conducted by Ewa Olofsson by telephone on 7 September and 8 September (18 days after the case was filed) and all told took 45 minutes.

Ewa Olofsson also acted as chief interrogator and police interrogation witness in some of the recorded interrogations including that of Julian Assange.

The witness, referred to in this narrative as 'A', is also coincidentally a member of the 'talk about it' network.
A said she and Anna are good friends and that they took a train ride together on 11 August. Anna then told her Julian Assange would be living in her flat when he came to Sweden. Anna would be out of town.

Anna rang A the Saturday after and invited A to a crayfish party they were going to have for Julian at Anna's place. Anna also told her she'd had a wild weekend and had sex with Julian. Anna also mentioned Julian ejaculated in her but A was unsure of exactly what Anna was trying to say. Anna told her Julian broke a condom when they had sex but A interpreted it to mean Julian had broken it by mistake. Not until Sunday did A understand Anna was saying Julian broke the condom deliberately.

A was at the crayfish party and everything was normal and A met Julian for the first time. A hadn't sensed that Julian and Anna had something going at the party. A didn't speak very much with Julian.

A and Anna met on Sunday to work together. A asked Anna how things were, how things were going with Julian, if they'd had sex again, and if in such case it had been good. Anna told her they'd not had more sex because Anna didn't feel secure and then Anna told her what had happened. Anna told her story in a completely different way than previously, told her Julian had been unpleasant and amongst other things broken a necklace when they had sex. Anna had told Julian to take it easy but he just continued.

Anna also told A that she believed Julian had broken the condom himself they used. A said that she was ashamed because she hadn't understood and listened better to what Anna was actually saying during their Saturday telephone call when Anna told her about Julian. A had herself interpreted it, when Anna told the story, that Julian had thought it was hot whilst Anna thought it went beyond what she herself desired.

The most remarkable thing according to A was that Anna told her she hadn't been able to move when she and Julian had sex because Julian held onto her. Anna said she'd decided Julian should fuck her until he came because that was the simplest solution.

The story with the condom according to A sounded like another story which was also creepy but the most unpleasant thing according to A was the violence which made it unpleasant for Anna to have sex with Julian. A didn't get the impression that Anna had been afraid of Julian but it had instead been 'uncomfortable' and he hadn't treated her with respect. Julian didn't check to see what Anna wanted. A interpreted this to mean that Anna wasn't afraid but experienced the situation as a 'hassle'. He didn't anchor what he did with what she wanted and didn't care about her and lacked respect and used too much violence.

Anna said she could hardly move but could move enough to make sure Julian was wearing a condom. When Anna told the story she showed A with her head how she could see Julian's genitals. Anna said that they then had sex and then went beyond the limits when Anna lost interest. Julian then had sex with Anna until he came and then she felt how things ran out of her nether regions and she also saw how Julian's condom was rolled up at the root. Julian had then avoided Anna's questions.

After Sunday and during the following week A and Anna talked a lot about Julian. A learned a lot of things such as Julian doesn't take showers, he doesn't flush the toilet, and more. Anna also told her on Wednesday or Thursday that Julian had showered and also found another woman he slept over with. When they talked about Julian still living with Anna, A interpreted this to mean Anna wanted Julian to leave her flat in a few days but for some reason he was still there. Julian wanted to continually postpone his moving out despite her efforts.

A didn't think Anna was afraid of Julian. Anna didn't say anything about him being aggressive or dangerous but Anna wanted him out of her flat because of his behaviour and because the flat was rather small. A herself met Julian on two occasions, first at the crayfish party and then at a dinner the day after.

Anna rang A on Friday 20 August right after the other girl contacted Anna. Anna told her the other girl had told her she'd been raped by Julian. According to Anna, there were a number of similarities between their stories. What A primarily meant and what Anna told her was that Julian also had sex without a condom with the other girl. The other girl wanted sex (but with a condom) but Julian had seen to it they had sex without a condom against her wishes. Anna rang A and updated her because she herself hadn't planned on filing a complaint against Julian but she wanted to support the other girl.

A said the whole story got more and more uncomfortable for her and she's accused herself of not understanding from the beginning so she could have supported Anna right away.

A didn't know who the other girl was and still doesn't know. Anna said it was the same girl Julian had traveled to see after he had his shower.
